Should you write your own blog?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

How do you find the time to blog? It can be a real dilemma. To keep your blog fresh and interesting to readers and use it as part of your SEO strategy it needs to be updated regularly.

I’m talking about bloggers that are consultants, coaches, therapists, or other solo-professionals. Bigger companies can distribute the load. With solo-entrepreneurs it’s a bit more challenging. So do you delegate blogging to someone else? Should you hire a copywriter to write the blog for you?

Well, remember that you want the blog to be in your voice. It’s a fantastic way to establish a real connection with your audience. So here are a few suggestions:

  • You may want to hire someone to do the actual posting. Would you blog more regularly if you could just shoot an email with the content of your blog to your assistant?
  • Another suggestion would be to hire someone to revamp your old content. Perhaps they could look at old newsletters and articles to come up with a new blog entry that’s still sounds like you.
  • The third alternative is to find a copywriter that you really connect with and work closely with them. Establishing this kind of relationship will take time but it’s worth the effort. When you collaborate closely, your copywriter will write using your voice.

Outsourcing—When You Need a Fresh Perspective

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I’ve noticed a common thread with all the consultants, coaches, entrepreneurs and small business owners I work with… they all have marketing savvy. That’s why they’re still in business! However, the one thing they lack and consistently thank me for is a FRESH perspective. They know the ins-and-outs of their service and/or product—that’s the problem. They’re just too close. (This is especially true when it comes to writing a Bio or About Me page!)

  • Are you sensing that your marketing is in a rut?
  • Do you notice that your copy isn’t producing results?
  • Are you procrastinating re-working your home page or sending out a sales letter?

These are signs that it’s time for some fresh perspective from a professional copywriter. A good copywriter starts by asking the right questions. These questions might be a revelation to you as they open up a whole new angle or approach to your marketing copy.
